After months of planning and weeks of rehearsals, Fireflight launched the opening of The Fire Station on Thursday 23rd November in spectacular fashion. Internationally-acclaimed outdoor theatre company Periplum were commissioned by The Cultural Spring and The MAC Trust to create a stunning and memorable event to open Sunderland’s newest cultural arts hub.

Local community participants worked alongside Periplum to share an exciting story of the Lambton Worm tale. They also worked alongside Dance City, Live Theatre and Sunderland Education Music Hub (who will be based at The Fire Station over the coming months) to create a unique dance routine, a drama performance alongside the actors in FireFlight, and an original song.

Over 1,000 people saw Fireflight with another 4,000 people who watched the fire show which saw the new Fire Station building being lit up by amazing fireworks.

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who worked on FireFlight, from Periplum to the community participants. This event wouldn’t have happened without the hard work of everyone involved.
