Summer Streets 2014

Our first Summer Streets Music Festival was programmed by Ross Millard, singer and guitarist for The Futureheads and Frankie and the Heartstrings, and won the Best Event, Sunderland, category in the Journal North East Culture Awards 2014.

The free music festival hosted in Thompson Park, following a colourful parade through the streets of Southwick, aimed to introduce audiences to new types of music as well as create a platform for new and emerging local talent, and more established, recognised bands and artists.

Ross’s eclectic programmes have included rock bands, jazz musicians, dance groups, choirs, bluegrass, drumming groups, tea dance bands and opera workshops as well as allowing people the opportunity to play an instrument for the first time through classes and workshops.
