The project:
‘Look & Inspire: Pinhole is a community engagement project developed by local artist Jo Howell, and funded by the Cultural Spring development in 2016 to engage people with their local area through photography. In the workshops participants will learn how to build their own camera out of recycled materials, and then use traditional darkroom techniques to produce unique photographic images of Sunderland. This year Look & Inspire will be coming to the North side of the river, with workshops to be confirmed  in the summer in Jo Howell’s riverside studio and around the coastline.  There will also be several workshops with community groups to capture more fantastic shots of the city. Once again the the images will be brought together, (with last years project), to create a bigger and better exhibition to be shown somewhere in the city. (TBC)
All the workshops of 2016 are free and the materials are provided.
In 2015, ‘Look & Inspire’ workshops were funded by Sunderland City Council and were based in the city centre and Hendon areas. The project culminated with a phenomenal month long exhibition in Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens.
