Becoming Scheherazade

The Thief of Baghdad presents Becoming Scheherazade

Magic and reality collide as one British Arab navigates the voyages of Sindbad the Sailor and tries to make sense of his own family’s relationship to their migration from Iraq to the UK.

In August 2017 The Cultural Spring supported a group of South Tyneside residents to go to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to look for a special show to bring home. They fell in love with Kamaal Hussain’s moving account of growing up feeling different, and are delighted to be able to share it with you, their friends and neighbours. They describe Becoming Scheherazade as:

“An incredible story told with dignity”

“A deeply personal and uplifting show”

“Absolutely brilliant”

Told with warmth and humour by a master storyteller, performances of Becoming Scheherazade are followed by a Middle East inspired feast (included in the ticket price), and an opportunity to share more stories with Kamaal.
