The Cultural Spring wards

Whilst The Cultural Spring aims to impact the wider areas throughout Sunderland and South Tyneside we focus on 10 specific wards (5 in Sunderland and 5 in South Tyneside) each phase to gain a greater understanding of the local communities and their wants and needs for arts and culture.

During phase 1 and the first three years of our programme we worked in the wards of Castletown, Red House, Southwick, Fulwell and Roker/St Peter’s in Sunderland and Biddick Hall and All Saints, Boldon Colliery, Cleadon and East Boldon, Whitburn and Marsden and Whiteleas in South Tyneside.

As of 2017 with the start of phase 2 we will be moving into new wards which will see the focus of our activity over the next three years. The new wards are Hendon, Millfield, Pallion, Sandhill and St Anne’s in Sunderland, and Horsley Hill, Beacon and Bents, Simonside and Rekendyke, Monkton and Bede in South Tyneside.

For our third phase – 2020-2023 – the wards in which we will focus are: Hebburn North, Hebburn South and Primrose in South Tyneside and Ryhope, Doxford and Silksworth in Sunderland.

Check out the maps below to see exactly what areas make up the wards we operate in.
